The Taj Love-All Art Exhibit 14.09.2010

By Charles-Antoine Vallières

In September of 2009, we signed a lease for a very peculiar home in Vancouver, Canada, knowing that we were going to be its last occupants. We called it the Taj Love-All. The walls quickly became our canvas and throughout the year the house evolved into something magnificently and optimystically wyrd. Many of our friends suggested we have a demolition party during the final week of its existence, but we prefer creativity to wanton destruction and decided to open the house up to the public for a silent auction in effort to raise funds for ROTH's beautiful charity.

Dozens of local artists donated paintings, photography, sculptures, poetry, films, installations, and music to collectively create The Taj Love-All Art Exhibit. Every other night we were blessed with soulful sounds from bands such as Weird'eaux In the noiZ Community, The Ponderosas, Castle Sky (all three of which were formed in the Taj) Zoomaflume, Johnnie Ninety-Nine & The Hornets, and Mo Jumbo. Hundreds of people came from all over the greater Vancouver area to celebrate, admire and purchase progressive and thought provoking art. After a week of generous donations and purchases, we collected just under $1,500, all of which is going towards the Tanzania project. The exhibit was a beautiful achievement considering that we only invested sixty dollars into the entire event, and that nearly all the money came from starving student pockets. Just goes to show how much good we can do for the world while still having some of the best times of our lives.
