Last Wednesday June 16th, in the magnificent, panoramic hall of the Montreal Science Centre, a cocktail party of the world was held to celebrate the construction of the Maasai Women Secondary School and to raise funds for the project, the biggest ever built by ROTH.
Under the projectors, Charles Sirois, our honorable president, welcomed more than 100 guests and our 25 volunteers for this urban event. After an inspiring video showing the first stages of construction an exclusive message from our co-founder Frédérique Vallières, M. Sirois, Quebecois businessman, made a fifteen minute address on the importance of social entrepreneurs working for developing countries.
Eve Cournoyer then took the stage to present to our public her new album « Tempete » while Maytiss accompanied by an African-inspired reggae rhythm. The silent auction, with its eclectic mix of hockey items, Maasai handicrafts and show tickets, had begun online a week earlier, and came to a close at the end of the night.
Thanks to the generosity of our guests, our supporters online and our honorary president Mr Sirois, we are very proud to announce that we raised $11,000 from this event. Generous donations in connection with this event raised this total to over 80% of our fundraising goal.
