Women in Crisis Centre - Kibera, Kenya
Kibera is currently Africa’s largest slum, with a population of over one million people. Within this vast informal settlement, exist some of the most difficult living conditions on earth. The lack of services, combined with a densely populated environment and high level of poverty, has negative implications for the health and wellbeing of Kibera’s residents. Women and children are particularly vulnerable in this environment. In 2011, ROTH will be partnering with a local women's group to help construct the Women in Crisis Centre . The Centre will provide crisis counseling, emergency refuge, basic first aid, vocational training and act as a meeting place and resource centre for women in crisis in Kibera.
