Week 8: July 23-27
Week 8 was a busy week for ROTH and their
volunteers. With the septic tank now completed, we began digging the
three main pipelines from the tank exit hole for the drainage.
We began work on our long awaited eye-glasses project, See Humanity.
ROTH members and volunteers started to sort pairs of glasses and their
different strengths. Our eye glasses camps will be held on August 28,
29 at two different locations in and around Nakuru.
With ceiling boards now fitted, volunteers and our laborers began
applying the first coat of paint to the boards. Only another two to go!
ROTH was introduced to a group of women in the Piave community who are
part of SWAK (Society of Women for AIDS in Kenya. This group works with
people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. One of their main focuses is
the 265 AIDS orphans in Piave. After sitting in on one of their meeting
we spent a morning delivering food parcels to those supported by SWAK.
The counseling room in the clinic will be given to SWAK to continue
their work. Future volunteers will work directly with SWAK in the
counseling centre. For more information on SWAK, please email Alannah
