Week 10: August 7th-11th
By the beginning of week 10, all of the mud blocks we were going to use
to erect the walls on the Muturi home, were dry and ready to be laid.
With the foundations dug, our labourers and fundis were now starting to
build the sub-structure wall, and eventually pour the floor.
With our window frames in place, during week 10 we had window fitters come out to the site, and put in glass panes.
Now that the majority of the external work on the maternity ward is
complete, we had to focus on the interior part of the building. We
decided to tile the floor, as this was certainly the most hygienic
option. Our tiler and his 6 Fundis started their work also.
With all the inside doors hung and in place, it was time for our
painter and his fundis to begin sanding down the doors frames, in order
for them to be varnished and eventually painted with a mahogany colour.
The doors to the post-natal ward are stained a mahogany colour.
