The Kitchen- An Update 08.11.2010

The work on the kitchen and dining room building for the Maasai Women Secondary School continues in preparation for the start of the January 2011 school year. This third building is being erected east of the dormitory block and will contain a dining room, separate kitchen as well as a hot press and storage room for the school. As floors were poured this week, ROTH partner MWEDO continues to work hard to ensure that the building will comfortably house the girls for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dining room will also be used in the evenings as an area of study.

Once completed, the Ministry of Education will conduct a former building inspection and begin to send teachers and administrative staff. Generous donations from MWEDO and ROTH partners will ensure that each girl will be equipped with textbooks and school supplies to commence their studies. ROTH intends to double the number of girls attending the school by 2013 with plans for a second dormitory and classroom block currently in the works. Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities helping with the build of this extension hopefully taking place in the Summer of 2012. ROTH is currently looking for individuals with good project management skills to help manage this upcoming build both on and offsite.
