After over a year of planning, stacks of revised architecture plans
(thanks Dermot!), more than 40 volunteers from 6 different countries
moving over 4000 blocks, mixing in countless bags of cement, and rolling
hundreds of litres of paint - we finally get to meet the young ladies
of the MWEDO Girls Secondary School. As of the 4th of February, over 65 78
promising young ladies have been registered to receive their secondary
education complete with full room and board.
At the Head of the School
sits a marvelous and inspiring woman by the name of Nina Sokoine, the
daughter of Tanzania's former prime minster Mr. Edward Sokoine. Ms.
Sokoine and her staff of 6 teachers will be working with MWEDO director
and an equally inspiring woman, Ndinini Kimesera, to establish the
reputation of the MWEDO Girls Secondary School. It is our hope that
the MGSS will grow to become one of the best academic environments in
Northern Tanzania.
In the summer of 2012, we will be heading back to Arusha to complete phase II of the school and in turn, hope to double the number of girls attending. If you are interested in helping us achieve this goal either from home or abroad we would love to hear from you: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Lastly, ROTH would like to extend an immense thank you to all of our donors, partners and volunteers without whom none of this would have been possible. On behalf of all of us and Tanzania's future leaders, asante sana!
