Masking our exhausted faces was an undeniable sense of elatedness as we
got to watch the neighbourhood children explore their new toys, books,
and facility. Though the connections of water and electricity are
still making their way up the echelons of Peruvian bureaucracy, all
should be up and running in the next month, just in time to welcome the
children back from their summer break in March.
Registration will commence February 10th and we should have a better
idea then of how many children to expect for the first year. Given the
overwhelming amount of community members who showed up for the
inauguration, we hope to reach maximum capacity in the first year of
operations.
Words cannot express how grateful we are to all those who supported
this project. Every donation made a huge difference and we cannot
thank you enough for all of those that took the time to contribute what
they could. To the volunteers that took time off work, away from their
friends and families, to lend a hand, your contribution was
indispensable and what a wonderful time we had getting to know you
all! Gracias. To the workers, directors, and members of Hijos de Luya
we would like to say thank you for letting us into your homes and
making us feel a part of your family and providing us with such an
unforgettable experience. To our partners, AGM, Projet Contigo, Monde
par la Main, OCNI, may we continue to ensure a future for the children
of Luya.
