Hijos de Manana Day Care Center

The population of Lima’s slums has today reached 5 million. In Hijos de Luya, poor hygienic conditions, precarious shelter, and scarce electric and water sources are part of an everyday struggle for survival.  Poorly nourished and clothed children are plagued by preventable infectious diseases due to lack of access to vaccines. Parents working long hours in low-paying jobs outside the slums must leave them alone, unattended. Juvenile crime is on the rise and children as young as 5 are solicited to join various neighbourhood gangs.

For it's next project ROTH has chosen to build the 'Hijos de Manana' daycare centre to try and address some of these aforementioned problems.  Once completed, the day care centre will provide at least 100 disadvantaged children between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age with basic education and two healthy meals per day as well as vaccinations and general health services. It will also ensure them proper registration with the Peruvian government. ROTH hopes that this initiative will encourage future global partnerships for the development of this district of Lima, Peru.  We invite all of you to follow our progress over the internet where we will post weekly blogs and pictures.  Construction starts September 15, 2008!!
