Week 1 : The Foundations

By Annie St-Amant
We are happy to announce that the first phase of the Maasai Women Secondary School construction has been successfully completed, thanks to the hard work of the labourers, ROTH and MWEDO team, ROTH volunteers and the foreman.
This first phase, the most important one, consisted of building the foundations for the classrooms, the dormitory and the kitchen. The workers dug the foundations at the beginning of the week, and poured the concrete at the end of the week. Many local women came to help the team of workers mix the concrete. We were impressed by their great coordination, which was supervised by our foreman, Aslam. During the week, the ROTH directors also met with suppliers and had them prepare quotations in order to get the best rates. Concrete blocks and cement were delivered on Friday allowing for the construction of the sub-structure to continue throughout the weekend.
