Project
The MWEDO Girls Secondary School is the fruit of a partnership between ROTH and Maasai Women Education and Development Organisation (MWEDO). The first phase of the project began in the region of Arusha in Tanzania in the summer of 2010 with the construction of a school building, a dormitory and a kitchen. In January 2011, at the beginning of the school year in Tanzania, the school operated by MWEDO and recognized by the Minister of Education in Tanzania opened its doors and welcomed its first 78 students.
The second phase of the project is expected to start in the summer of 2012 with the goal of doubling the current school’s capacity and offering a new dormitory for an additional 80 young girls, three new class rooms, one library and an office space for the teaching and administrative personnel.
Budget
Based on past experiences, we evaluate that the total cost for Phase II will be $115,000. ROTH has already financed the first phase of the project. The teacher’s salaries are paid by the ministry of education.
Date and site
The construction of Phase II will be in Arusha, Tanzania, from the beginning of May until the end of July 2012. ROTH is currently looking for volunteers both in Canada and to join us on site in Tanzania in 2012 for the phase II (from May to July). Should you or anyone you know be interested in being a part of this important project please consult the volunteer needed article for all details .
